International Conference Markets Integration and Food Security in Developing Countries
Aim and Scope
The aim of the conference is to bring together economists from different fields working on market integration and food security in order to share methods and ideas.
The topics to be covered include (but are not limited to):
- Integration of developing countries into world commodity markets: transmission of world comodity prices to domestic markets ; substitutability between domestic and imported agricultural goods
- Spatial arbitrage: transmission of price shocks between markets at the domestic or regional level; measure and nature of transaction costs
- Time arbitrage: market efficiency, sources of price variability
- Vertical integration and market power in the food sector
- Origins of food crises: market, entitlement or government’s failure
