The CERDI - Centre for Studies and Research on International Development

CERDI was created in 1976 as a department of the Faculty of Economics and Management of the "Université d'Auvergne". It is also an associated research centre of the National Centre for Scientific Research (UMR 6587) since 1996. CERDI is the most important academic centre in France for teaching, research and consulting on the economy of developing countries. CERDI is a team of one hundred or so permanent staff : thirty university professors, associate professors, CNRS researchers and about sixty Ph.D. students. It benefits from the regular collaboration of about thirty visiting professors and researchers mostly from abroad. In 1995, CERDI created a research department focusing on the Chinese economy, the IDREC (Institute for Research in the Chinese Economy).
Research activities conducted within CERDI focus on the economic relations between countries at different levels of development, economic and social policy in developing and transition economies, their micro and macro-foundations as well as the social and institutional conditions of development.
Teaching activities: Magistère (equivalent to a post-Master's degree), Masters and Ph.D. in Economic Development. It delivers a Master degree in "Health Economic in Developing and Transitional Countries"
High-quality training through a programme of "Management of Economic Policy" supported by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by the World Bank for deciders and policy makers from the developing world.
Consulting activities at the request of the French ministers, international institutions and foreign governments.
Publication activity: direction of the Revue d'Economie du Développement (edited by De Boeck).
CERDI has established worldwide networks with national and international development institutions and with several universities. Among them are universities of Amsterdam (Nederland), Berkeley (USA), Casablanca (Morocco), Geneva, Harvard, London School of Economics and Oxford (UK), New York (Columbia and Cornell), Beijing (Academy of Social Sciences, University of Beijing), Princeton, Quebec and Montreal (Canada), …
Cerdi is located at Clermont-Ferrand, about 400km south of Paris with easy air and train connection.
