6th International Conference on the Chinese Economy 18-19 October 2007
Is China's development Sustainable?
The CERDI-IDREC organizes every two years an international conference on the Chinese economy, with the objective of strengthening scientific collaboration and contacts between research centers around the world. As such, the conference will include academic researchers as well as practitioners from international organisations. The theme of the conference will focus on the sustainability of China’s rise, broadly defined, over the last 25 years. China’s dynamic economy and its integration into the global economy have been among the most important economic developments of the last decade. Although China's growth performance has been spectacular, it remains an open question if this is sustainable over the long term as well as how economic growth translates into actual improvement in well-being of the population at large. This conference will therefore discuss a wide range of topics including: macroeconomic and structural vulnerabilities, dramatic environmental deterioration, fragile banking system, growing inequalities in income levels, development of corruption, etc.
Topics to be covered by this conference include (but not restricted to):
- Spatial and Income Disparities
- Energy sources and environment
- Evolution of the social system
- Labor market and Unemployment
- Financial system
- Corruption
