5th International Conference on the Chinese Economy
20-21 October 2005
China in the World Economy: Internal Challenge and International Challenges
The "open-door policy" implemented by its government has allowed China to become a major actor in the international world trade and in foreign direct investment. Its entry to WTO in 2001 should accelerate the economic liberalization. After years of autarky, China is now able to compete with both industrialized and developing countries.
- What are the characteristics of China's international integration? What is its place in the Asian area?
- What are the implications for other countries of China's trade specialization and of the creation of a free trade area in Asia? How does China influence the different international markets?
- What are the macro and micro internal consequences of this openness for China?
Papers, in French or in English, may focus on the following issues:
- Openness of capital markets
- Foreign trade and trade policy
- Foreign direct investment
- WTO accession impact on the Chinese economy
- Exchange rate policy
- China and the Asian free trade area
- Openness and economic reforms (state-owned enterprises, banking sector...)
- China and the world markets of raw materials
- Migrations
